Archery Tournament

This past Saturday, Emerald Hill held the 2nd Annual Archery Tournament.  Mr. Bo Dishman was responsible for organizing this exciting event.  Beginning in 4th grade, students are taught the basics of archery during their physical education class.  Emerald Hill is the only elementary school in the county to offer this curriculum.  5th Graders with a particular interest in the sport were invited to stay after school for the past two months and work with Mr. Dishman on their skills.  The culminating activity was the tournament for these students.

Congratulations to the Winners!

Stories & Smoothies

This morning I got the pleasure of listening to the stories written and read by Mrs. Atherton's 2nd grade language arts class.  Parents were invited to attend this morning's activities so that they could hear the stories and enjoy a fruit smoothie as well.  I was very impressed by the originality of all of the stories!  Great job students!

Celebrating Dr. Seuss Day

Donna Huff - Emerald Hill Reading Specialist

Today is "Read Across America Day" and we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Seuss.  Across all grade levels, students are celebrating in a variety of ways.  Many students were fortunate enough to have guests read to them many of the Dr. Seuss classics during their language arts classes. Thanks to all of the volunteers who took the time to read to our students today!

Interesting fact: Dr. Seuss never drew straight lines in his illustrations - everything was curved, slanted or "wonky."
