MEGA PARTY FUN!

Today, students got to participate in the "Mega Party" at Emerald Hill.  The PTO coordinated this event in conjunction with the fall fundraising campaign.  All students got to attend this outdoor event that consisted of an obstacle course, slide and sports center where students could throw a football, hit a baseball or kick a soccer ball.  The weather cooperated and students really enjoyed the time that they could spend outside going through all of the activities set up for them.  Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who graciously gave up their time to help with this event.  The resource teachers at Emerald Hill also deserve a big thank you for spending their day outside facilitating students through the schedule as well.  Overall, if you ask the students, the Mega Party was Mega Fun!

Third Grade Free-Throw Contest

I was greeted with laughter and cheers as I entered the gym today during 3rd grade resource time.  The 3rd grade teachers held a free-throw contest for all 3rd grade students.  This event is in conjunction with
the language arts story, "Allie's Basketball Dream," where the main character gets a basketball and she struggles through holding onto her dream of becoming a basketball player.  All six teachers had an individual class competition and then there was a shoot-out for first place!

The Book Fair is here.

The Fall Book Fair at Emerald Hill opened yesterday in the library.  Mrs. Heelen and many parent volunteers have worked very hard to set up the many displays of books and various other items for students to purchase.  All of the profit made at the Book Fair goes back to the library so that they can add more books for students.  Every student is scheduled to attend the fair with their teacher sometime over the next week.  The Book Fair is open to the public tonight, Friday, October 8th until 7:00 p.m. and every day next week until 3:00 p.m. so please come out and see what they have to offer!

The trout are hatching!

Under the supervision of Chris Kennedy, physical education teacher, just over 200 Brook Trout eggs from the Virginia State Hatchery in Verona arrived on Monday, September 27th.  As of today, about 9 have hatched.  The Brook Trout is the state fish of Virginia.  The aquarium has been set up to provide the eggs with the proper environment to hatch and grow.  They are available for observation in Mrs. Corpenings's room and will remain there until they are released in the spring to help reestablish native Brook Trout populations in the mountain streams of Virginia.  Stop by and see them as they grow!
